This image, created by Trey Ideker using Cytoscape, depicts thousands of known molecular and genetic interactions occurring inside the human body. Because of its seemingly fuzzy complexity, Ideker has dubbed the result a "data hairball." Nonetheless, researchers can tease them apart to examine specific interactions, such as the differences between species or between healthy and diseases cells.
