Georgia Tech researchers used special markers to color-code as many as 30 ants at time. The goal was to identify individual ants so their contributions to tunnel digging could be measured. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Aug. 17, 2018, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Jeffrey Aguilar at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA, and colleagues was titled, "Collective clog control: Optimizing traffic flow in confined biological and robophysical excavation."
