Catchment Geology Rules Freshwater Plant Communities (7 of 14) (IMAGE)
Caption
Aquatic plants from lakes with low concentrations of bicarbonate utilize CO2 from the sediment in order to compensate for the low concentration of CO2 in the lake water. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 15 Nov. issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by L.L. Iversen at University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues was titled, "Catchment properties and the photosynthetic trait composition of freshwater plant communities."
