Figure legend: Everyday actions such as typing or playing the piano require producing individual movements in the correct serial order from memory. Kornysheva et al. showed that the brain prepares such sequences by 'stacking' the first to last elements in parallel according to their position in the sequence before the first movement. Individuals who typed out the sequences accurately were more likely to 'stack' the elements correctly before they made the first movement.
