Image of supernova remnant: Artistic view of the remnant of the supernova explosion. The light emitted by the supernova explosion would have been for a few days as bright as the whole of the Milky Way. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Aug. 18, 2017, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by S. Vennes at Astronomical Institute of Czech Academy of Sciences in Ondrejov, Czech Republic, and colleagues was titled, 'An unusual white dwarf star may be a surviving remnant of a subluminous Type Ia supernova.'
