Russell Stewart, a University of Utah bioengineer, peers into a microscope. Stewart and colleagues developed a synthetic version of natural glue made by sea-dwelling sandcastle worms. The worms use their glue to build tube-shaped homes. The Utah researchers are developing the synthetic glue to help orthopedic surgeons put together shattered bones in joints and the face.
