Non-typhoidal Salmonella causes widespread illness in America and around the globe, producing symptoms of food borne illness, including gastroenteritis. A particular strain in sub-Saharan Africa known as ST313 however is the cause of (often fatal) blood infections. Both types of Salmonella respond to fluid shear forces, though they do so in different ways, as the new study shows.
