After coated vesicles pinch off from the plasma membrane, a rapid uncoating reaction, shown here, disassembles the clathrin scaffold and releases a nascent endocytic vesicle that will fuse with endosomes and deliver its cargo for further sorting along the endosomal/lysosomal pathway.
