A snapshot of the conditionally activated non-enzymatic reaction network among sugar phosphates at a pH value of 8. Reaction sequences of the Archean sediment catalyzed chemical network are superimposable with modern metabolism (glycolysis and pentose phosphate pathway). This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Jan. 15, 2016, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by M.A. Keller at University of Cambridge in Cambridge, UK, and colleagues was titled, 'Conditional iron and pH-dependent activity of a nonenzymatic glycolysis and pentose phosphate pathway.'
