Morphine and Cocaine Follow Different Routes to Reward (IMAGE)
Caption
This image shows expression of TrkB (green), a functional receptor of BDNF, in dopamine neurons (TH+, red) in the VTA. Negative effect of VTA BDNF-TrkB signaling in morphine reward can be modulated by optical stimulation (inset) of VTA-NAc dopamine pathways. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 5, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Ja Wook Koo at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, N.Y., and colleagues was titled, "BDNF Is a Negative Modulator of Morphine Action."
