The GPM Core Observatory satellite passed over western India on Dec. 5, 2017 at (12:21 a.m. EST) 0521 UTC and showed storm top heights in the most powerful storms well to the southwest of the center reached altitudes of about 10 km (6.2 miles) where rainfall was occurring at over 101.6 mm (4 inches) per hour.
