Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute scientists led by associate professor Gregorio Valdez (center) study sensory neurons to provide new mechanistic insights to prevent, slow, or even reverse ALS. Valdez is the senior and corresponding author of the study in Scientific Reports. First author is Sydney Vaughn (left), a student in Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health graduate program at Virginia Tech. Working with them was Natalia Sutherland, a first-year student in the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
