Tracking Electron Motion in a Photo-Excited Molecule (IMAGE)
Caption
Potential energy landscape for the light-induced dissociation of NO2 molecules. The oscillations of the electronic cloud are made visible through its emission of attosecond bursts (violet waves). This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 14, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. Hans Jakob Woerner of National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and colleagues, was titled, "Conical Intersection Dynamics in NO2 Probed by Homodyne High-Harmonic Spectroscopy."
