Electron Micrograph of Syntactic Foam With Fly-Ash Microspheres (IMAGE)
Caption
Materials scientists at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering developed syntactic foam filaments and processes to 3-D print them using off-the-shelf commercial printers. The filaments comprise high-density polyethylene plastic (HDPE), a material used to manufacture industrial grade components, and hollow fly-ash microspheres.
