New discovery for how the brain 'tangles' in Alzheimer's Disease (IMAGE)
Caption
In a paper of Acta Neuropathologica this month, Polanco et al. demonstrate that following internalization exosomes can deliver misfolded tau into the cytosol via permeabilization of endolysosomes in HEK293T and neuronal cells. Pictured is a 3D reconstruction using deconvoluted Z-series of a cultured neuronal cell showing permeabilized endosomes (red, mCherry-Gal3), exosomes (green, CD9-mEmerald) and nucleus (blue). Overlaid is a sliced half of the 3D surface rendering used to mask images for colocalization analysis.
