This lower jaw of an adult female individual of Australopithecus sediba demonstrates this species differs substantially from other early human ancestors in both size and shape. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the April 12, 2013, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Darryl J. de Ruiter at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and colleagues was titled, "Mandibular Remains Support Taxonomic Validity of Australopithecus sediba."
