Anna's Hummingbird produces sound with its tail. The outer tail-feather generates the sound, and the second-to-outer tail feather acts as an amplifier. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Sept. 9, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. C.J. Clark of Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and colleagues was titled, "Aeroelastic Flutter Produces Hummingbird Feather Songs."
