Jayme Burket, Ph.D., and colleagues at Hospital for Special Surgery studied cost-effectiveness of knee replacement surgery in high-volume vs. low-volume hospitals. They found that if all of these surgeries were performed in very high-volume hospitals, the US health-care system could save up to $4 billion annually by the year 2030.
