Static Electricity Revamped -- A New Take on Bad Hair Days (2 of 2)

This collage combines a background illustrating static electricity effects (discharge and lightning) with the experimental images placed in the mirrors. One mirror has an experimental image of the charge mosaic and the other is a theoretical model. The experimental image and the theoretical model correspond faithfully, hence, the illustration of mirrors. This image relates to an article that appeared in the June 23, 2011, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by H.T. Baytekin at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and colleagues was titled, "The Mosaic of Surface Charge in Contact Electrification."
