New Microscope Peers at Subcellular Gears in Action (1 of 8) (IMAGE)
Caption
T cell is expressing mEmerald-Lifeact (orange) approaching a target cell expressing a plasma membrane marker fused to tagRFP (blue), as seen from the side (top) and from the viewpoint of the APC (bottom). Initial contact (t=80 s). The two cells, after the formation of a mature immunological synapse (t=200 s). These data represent three time points from a 4-D, two-color data set spanning 400 time points. Scale bars, 4.0 micrometers (top), 5.0 micrometers (bottom). This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 24 Oct. 2014 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by B.-C. Chen at Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Ashburn, VA, and colleagues was titled, "Lattice light-sheet microscopy: Imaging molecules to embryos at high spatiotemporal resolution."
