A brownbanded bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium punctatum) pup swims through a coral-filled lagoon on display at the California Academy of Sciences' Steinhart Aquarium. The juvenile shark emerged from its egg case nearly four years after its parents had the opportunity to mate.
