A Macrophage with Three Intracellular Tuberculosis bacilli (IMAGE)
Caption
The arrow points to an accumulation of autophagy proteins to a bacteria, while the lower arrow head points to a bacteria that is being eliminated. The accumulation of autophagy proteins to bacteria vacuoles that aren't acetified stimulates uninhibited bacteria growth. Coloring: tuberculosis bacteria are green, autophagy proteins LC3 are red, acetification/disintegration is blue. Confocal microscopy by doctoral student Anna-Maria Andersson.
