"Neuron-D GmbH", the DZNE's first spin-off based in Dresden (Germany), uses 3D cell cultures to test drug candidates for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. This microscopic image shows networks of neurons as they typically develop in these cell cultures. These cell cultures, which make use of special biomaterials, allow to mimic key features of human brain tissue.
