These three Hipparion species coexisted around 8 million years ago in the Iberian Peninsula, being just one example of the high body size diversity within horses. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 10, 2017, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by J.L. Cantalapiedra at Museum für Naturkundee in Berlin, Germany, and colleagues was titled, 'Decoupled ecomorphological evolution and diversification in Neogene-Quaternary horses.'
