Urticaria is a common and debilitating group of diseases in which patients have recurrent hives and often associated swelling (angioedema). It is frequently associated with a decreased quality of life. This is frequently due to difficulty in determining the cause and finding the appropriate treatment. The Global Allergy and Asthma European Network (GALEN) has launched a program to accredite centers of patient care that meet specific criteria for excellence in the care of patients with urticaria. Mount Sinai (Dr. Busse in Medicine and Dr. Lebwohl in Dermatology) were award a GALEN Urticaria Center of Reference and Excellence.
