This is a polar bear walking on the frozen Hudson Bay near Cape Churchill, Canada. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the April 20, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Frank Hailer at the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Nuclear Genomic Sequences Reveal that Polar Bears Are an Old and Distinct Bear Lineage."
