A study by Yi et al shows that estrogens, a group of hormones involved in female and male sexual function and in some diseases such as breast cancer, carry out their functions by turning genes on and off via a multi-step process shown in this video. This study increases our understanding of how this molecular machine works. We are better prepared to understand what might have gone wrong when the machine fails.
