Comparing Strains of Lab Mice Reveals Mutations (4 of 9) (IMAGE)
Caption
This is a C57BL/6 mouse, a common strain of laboratory mouse used to study how genes regulate behavior. Here, scientists observed how mutations in substrains of C57BL/6 mice affected the response to cocaine, which the white powder shown here represents. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the 20 Dec., 2013, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Vivek Kumar at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and colleagues was titled, "C57BL/6N Mutation in Cytoplasmic FMR interacting protein 2 Regulates Cocaine Response."
