Kathryn Roecklein, University of Pittsburgh, led a study examining the misconceptions SAD sufferers have about sleep. Like insomniacs, those with SAD reported the need for up to an extra five hours of sleep during winter nights. However, they more often were lying in bed -- not sleeping. SAD sufferers, like insomniacs, could benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy.
