Lee Lynd, Dartmouth engineering professor and co-founder of biofuels start-up company Mascoma Corp., is the inaugural winner of the $100,000 Lemelson-MIT Award for Sustainability. Lynd and his research group are at the forefront of advanced technologies that cost-effectively convert plant matter into ethanol, which can be used for fuel.
