This shows the A-ATOFMS on the G-1 aircraft. The A-ATOFMS measured the size and chemical composition of individual clear-air aerosols and residues in cloud ice crystals and droplets. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 28, 2013, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Jessie Creamean at University of California, San Diego in La Jolla, Calif., and colleagues was titled, “Dust and Biological Aerosols from the Sahara and Asia Influence Precipitation in the Western U.S.”
