Mormyrid electric fish community inhabiting the Okano River near the abandoned village, Na, Gabon, west-central Africa. At this locality, all co-occurring mormyrids happen to belong to genus Paramormyrops. Each fish is shown with a recording of its electric signal (right). This image relates to an article that appeared in the April 29, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Bruce Carlson of Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and colleagues, was titled, "Brain Evolution Triggers Increased Diversification of Electric Fishes."
