Virginia Tech professor Chris Zobel is part of a multidisciplinary project on human-artificial intelligence teaming to identify disaster-related risks in social media posts to provide situational awareness for emergency management and disaster response. The idea, Zobel said, is that when individuals or groups tweet about what they are seeing and experiencing, emergency managers can use this information to understand what is happening and respond to the situation more effectively.
