Iron grains line the rim of a shock melt vein in meteorite Chelyabinsk. Shock melt veins are weak sections along which meteorites can fragment. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the 7 Nov., 2013, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Olga Popova at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, Russia, and colleagues was titled, "Chelyabinsk Airburst, Damage Assessment, Meteorite Recovery, and Characterization."
