This multi-panel image shows mouse model heart sections tested by scientists reporting on an experimental therapy for heart injury in the Journal of American College of Cardiology. The bottom row shows close-up images of each section. The left panels show a normal uninjured mouse heart. The middle panels show an injured mouse heart with significant scarring and structural damage. The right panels show a heart treated with an experimental molecular inhibitor that stopped the disease process in mice and donated human heart cells.
