This is German research vessel Maria S. Merian in sea ice northwest of Svalbard in August 2007. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Jan. 28, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Robert Spielhagen of Academy of Sciences, Humanities, and Literature in Mainz, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Enhanced Modern Heat Transfer to the Arctic by Warm Atlantic Water.”
