A synthetic nickel complex with a pendant amine functioning as a proton relay catalyzes the production of hydrogen by proton reduction with a turnover frequency of over 100,000 s-1 at room temperature. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 12, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. M.L. Helm of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA, and colleagues was titled, "A Synthetic Nickel Electrocatalyst with a Turnover Frequency Above 100,000 s−1 for H2 Production."
