Tansat (IMAGE)
Caption
TanSat (the satellite depicted in the cover image of the Issue 6 of Advances in Atmospheric Sciences in 2018), a Chinese Earth observation satellite dedicated to monitoring carbon dioxide (CO2), was launched successfully on 22 December 2016. After onboard testing and calibration, TanSat started recording the backscattered solar spectrum to produce CO2 concentration data. The first global CO2 maps, for April and July 2017, are also illustrated on the cover, in which red and blue indicate high and low concentrations, respectively.
