Malaria Parasite Male Gamete Maturation (VIDEO)
Caption
When a male gametocyte of the malaria parasite senses that it has been transmitted to a mosquito, it activates and forms eight sperm-like male gametes. This video captures the moment when flagellated male gametes break free of the red blood cell membrane. New research shows that by disrupting genes in the CAF1/CCR4/NOT complex, this maturation process can be affected.
