Photo collage of plastic fragments found in the Arctic Ocean. While plastic debris was scarce in most of the Arctic waters, it reached high concentrations in areas of the Greenland and Barents Seas. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the April 19, 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A. Cózar at Universidad de Cádiz in Puerto Real, Spain, and colleagues was titled, 'The Arctic Ocean as a dead end for floating plastics in the North Atlantic branch of the Thermohaline Circulation.'
