New Planetary System Detected by Kepler Mission (IMAGE)

This image shows the relative sizes and orbital periods of the newly discovered planets and the super-Earth candidate as they cross their host star, Kepler-9. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 26, 2010, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Matthew Holman of Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., and colleagues, was titled, "Kepler-9: A System of Multiple Planets Transiting a Sun-Like Star, Confirmed by Timing Variations."
