Fluorescent Peptides Shine Light on Esophagus (1 of 1)

A fluorescently labeled peptide paired with white light endoscopy helps researchers visualize esophageal tissue. This esophagus shows an absence of the architectural features that typically suggest the presence of cancer. The technique may offer a new approach for early cancer detection and prevention. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the May 8, 2013, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. M.B. Sturm at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., and colleagues was titled, "Targeted Imaging of Esophageal Neoplasia With a Fluorescently Labeled Peptide: First-in-Human Results."
