The neurovascular unit of the brain comprises endothelial cells, astrocytes and pericytes which together form what is known as the blood-brain barrier. The BBB becomes dysfunctional in Alzheimer's Disease. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Sept. 18, 2015, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by J. Keaney at Trinity College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland, and colleagues was titled, 'Autoregulated paracellular clearance of amyloid-ß across the blood-brain barrier.'
