How Well Can a Snake Cross the Road?

Northern pine snakes move much more efficiently across sand than across concrete and asphalt surfaces, according to research from the Laboratory of Pinelands Research at Drexel University. Doctoral student Dane C. Ward is combining substrate experiments with landscape-level analyses to determine the impacts of roads on snake habitat.
