Fires predicted by the Roos-Swetnam model (orange line) are presented alongside historical fires (the black line) from fire scars dated from 1700 to 2000. As shown, the model accurately predicted historical fires, and also indicates that low-intensity surface fires should have occurred throughout the last century, were it not for fire suppression.
