This is a general view of the excavations at FwJj14E in northern Kenya. Fossil footprints (Homo erectus) have been found at levels within this excavation. This image accompanied the report "Early Hominin Foot Morphology Based on 1.5-Million-Year-Old Footprints from Ileret, Kenya," by M.R. Bennett et. al. appearing in the Feb. 27, 2009, issue of Science.
