This image shows separation of the sarcolemma and basal lamina in skeletal muscle caused by the aberrant modification of alpha-dystroglycan in a myodystrophic mouse model. This image relates to an article that appeared in the January 1 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. T. Yoshida-Moriguchi of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Iowa City, Iowa, and colleagues, was titled, "0-Mannosyl Phosphorylation of Alpha-Dystroglycan Is Required for Laminin Bindings."
