This is a male Allen's hummingbird (Selasphorus sasin). This species produces separate tones with its narrowed tail feathers. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Sept. 9, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. C.J. Clark of Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and colleagues was titled, "Aeroelastic Flutter Produces Hummingbird Feather Songs."
