A scorpion faces its natural enemy. Although legendary for their toxicity, scorpion stings are also known to be extremely painful, apparently to deter larger predators that cannot be overpowered. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Aug. 2, 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by S. Yang at Kunming Institute of Zoology in Kunming, China, and colleagues was titled, 'A bimodal activation mechanism underlies scorpion toxin-induced pain.'
