NIST researchers have developed a new website expaining the hazards associated with mercury thermometers and discussing potential alternatives for the temperature sensing needs of industry. Reducing the amount of mercury in the environment by recycling mercury thermometers also helps to reduce the amount of electricity we need to produce, which in turn reduces the amount of coal burned.
